Granny 911 - we provide proactive solutions not reactive disasters

DECEMBER 5, 2006–A South Carolina boy, 12, was arrested after his mother called police to report that he had unwrapped a Christmas present without her permission. The child opened a Nintendo Game Boy, though he had been directed not to by family members. When the boy’s mother learned that the $85 gift had been opened, she called the police, who charged the juvenile with petty larceny. In an interview with the local newspaper, the boy’s mother, a 27-year-old single parent, described her son as a disruptive child, noting that she hoped his arrest would serve as a deterrent to disorderly behavior at school and home.

Should she have called the police?   NO - She was being reactive instead of being proactive.

Ideally, a family member or family friend should have contacted Granny 911 in behalf of the mother before this situation got so far out of hand.

All children engage in disruptive and disorderly behaviors at one time or another. Granny 911 will assist in discovering how to be proactive in preventing these behaviorial mishaps.  It is easier to prevent a problem behavior than to change it once the child has learned it.  But if your child has learned some undesirable behaviors, we can help you reverse the process.

We will teach a strategy of behavior management using tools that stresses interaction between the parent and child, and possibly with significant others, such as teachers and peers.  These tools will help reshape parental behavior, which will reshape the child's behavior.  Remember, the goal is proactive solutions rather than reactive disasters.

How Granny 911 works:

Granny 911 allows a family member or family friend to purchase an online counseling gift certificate for a family in crisis.  It can be done anonymously.  This gift certificate just may be the incentive the loved one or friend needs to learn strategies on how to become proactive rather than reactive.

The parent(s) may not have sought professional help because traditional counseling requires face-to-face contact with the professional counselor.  This may be too confrontational for the parent(s) or too embarassing to discuss family problems with someone in their community.  Online counseling is very private and the convenience of sitting down at their own computer in their own home will make counseling more relaxing and thus more rewarding.

The parent(s) may be in denial and are ignoring the problems or it may be as simple as they don't know where to start. A Granny 911 gift certificate may just be that gentle nudge they need to point them in the right direction.

Fees:

Affordable Counseling Services charges $30 US for one online counseling session gift certificate. The actual number of online counseling sessions required will be determined by the client!  Affordable Counseling Services will not require the client to contract for more sessions than are actually need.

If you have a grandchild, niece/nephew or friend's child who is on the path of disorderly or disruptive behavior, this could be a gift that could impact the rest of their life.

After you purchase the gift certificate, please Contact Us and tell us your contact preferences and a brief discription of the problem.
